Why is my vision not perfect immediately after surgery?
Short answer. Blurred or fluctuating vision in the first hours or days is common and does not by itself mean that a complication has occurred.
Vision may be affected by a dilated pupil, corneal swelling, mild inflammation, drops or ointment, a dry ocular surface and a temporary difference between the two eyes.
Some patients notice improvement the next day, while others recover over several days or weeks. The final result also depends on the cornea, retina, optic nerve and conditions such as glaucoma.

Which symptoms are expected after cataract surgery?
Short answer. Mild discomfort, a gritty or foreign-body sensation, tearing, slight redness and light sensitivity can occur during the first few days.
You may also notice mild burning, stinging, slight aching, eyelid swelling or brighter perception of colours. Expected symptoms should gradually settle, although recovery may take longer after a more complex procedure.

Which symptoms require urgent medical attention?
Short answer. Do not wait for a routine appointment if vision drops suddenly, pain becomes severe or increasing, redness worsens, or new flashes, many floaters or a curtain appear.
Urgent assessment is also needed if vision worsens after initially improving, if marked light sensitivity develops, if the eyelids become increasingly swollen or if unusual sticky or purulent discharge appears.
